Q: How much for a cheap good used car in thailand, can i get one with 35000 baht ?

A: Hardly, if yes be very careful about the technical condition, cars are not maintained here at all and even if we ask our car technician at the shop where we bought the new car to check on this and this and to replace it we always get the answer ‘it’s not broken yet,mai pen rai(doesn’t matter), same experience with our big motorbikes, so you have to insist to get some service done.

If you want to buy a car in here look for an expat car service shop and ask them to help you or at least to have a look at the car before you buy it, be ready to pay around 100.000THB, that’s good enough for a 7-10year old sedan or a simple reliable pickup 5-6years old, if you come to Pattaya I can show you some repair shops with british, swiss or german owners, there is a lot of good 2nd hand cars in here.
We actually decided to buy a brand new one 2years ago as the price – warranty value for money comparison between very good condition 2nd hand and new cars was definately towards the new one.

there is a forum about 2nd hand cars in TH
Glad to help you out.

Q: £35000 : new or used car?
basically, i have come into some money which will allow me to by my first half-decent car. so, i could buy a new car i.e. a bmw 330 coupe, or i buy used and get something really special, i was thinking:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2005-Mercedes-Benz-CLS-55-AMG-KOMPRESSOR_W0QQitemZ120277018028QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item120277018028&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

am i being a fool considering something like this given future tax rates and fuel prices. and of course, there’s the woman, she won’t like it one bit…

I have a 3 year old daughter, so sorry, no convertibles.

thanks for your advice,
chris.
edit:

sorry, that should say “buy”.
In addition, when i say no convertibles, i mean no 2 seaters.

A: Do be prepared for te cost of ownership of everything at that price.

The new stuff speaks for itself, but so far as ‘really special’ is concerned, the sky is the limit when you’re talking second hand.

All of the following will take a child in the back.

You really have to go some to spend £35k on a second hand car.

At the end of the day, you need to balance up how you’re going to use it, where it’s going to be parked, how long you want to keep it, what views your have on practicality, what your natural leanings are, how you’re going to drive it, what you preconceptions are, what your views are on petrol costs, what sort of running costs you can afford and whether you reckon it suits your image.

I’d buy a 993 911 and spend the other £20k on racing saloon cars until the money ran out.

Q: Back out of a car loan? Used car?
I sold a car with 35000 miles, the buyer drove the car for 15 miles, and the head gasket blew.
Used cars from a private seller don’t come with a warranty. Can the buyer back out of his loan, and I would be stuck with a non-running car?

A: The lemon law is only for new cars. You are not responsible as the buyer should of had a car mechanic go over the car before buying it. However, this comes down to being honest. Did you know that the head gasket was going to blow? If you honestly can say you did not know and you have the maintenance statements to show that you have kept the car in good order, then I would not help the buyer fix the problem. If you did know there was something wrong with the car, ask them if they are willing to split the cost to fix the head gasket.

The buyer can not back out of a loan, but they can pay it back to the lender.

good luck.

Q: Looking for a used car (india-maharashtra-mumbai)?

Q: Does a 2001 Jetta GLS, with 35000 miles and cost $9500 sound like a good deal?
I was just reading classifieds and I am looking for used, car any other suggestions (models etc?)

A: If you can afford that, it’s kinda reasonable. Love Jettas! Miles are truly low… So why are they selling? What’s wrong with it? Someone die in it? Nah! Sorry! But make sure you check it really well, test drive it twice, once in the a.m. and once while it’s dark…ask a lot of questions – latest repairs, what kind of gas and oil (synthetic is the only good choice) previously used in past. How old are the tires, any accidents…offer significantly less in full cash, ten grand is a big investment! Other brands to consider: Hondas are cheap (Preludes late 90s!!!!++++) and plentiful, easy to learn to fix and modify but easy to get stolen from you. Toyotas seem never to die, the older Celicas have a great shape and are fun to drive, supe up, you can even drop a small v-8 in if your mechanically inclined (and can afford the gas!). Older VWs are cool too, esp the Karman Ghias (little porshes!). Check the repos as well, you can get great deals there and at the police auctions you can find great steals on nice cars! Happy hunting! Just remember to save some cash to invest in securing your vehicle (kill switches help and get rid of keyholes with remote auto start/open/alarm kits! Tint the windows so your goodies are unseen!) P.S. Fords tend to be hard to break in to….the newer ones…Good Luck!

Q: Can I stop payment on a used car I purchased less than two days ago?
I purchased a 2001 Hyundai Accent that had 35000 miles on it for $4800. I knew it was overpriced but it was supposed to come with a 3month/4000 mi warranty on it so I thought it was worth it (later was told it was only 30 days even thought the web ab stated otherwise). When I was looking at the car originally I took it for a test run for about 10 mi. Then I brought my uncle out to go with me for a run and he said it should be fine. I purchased the car and on my way home it broke down exactly 29 miles from the dealer. I called him back and he said he would send a tow to get me. They said water got into the spark plug cylinder (????). I took it back home and it broke down again and it was idling @ 3000RPM. He picked it up, took it back to the dealership and said they put “new spark plugs” into it. I then came back, picked it up and now my tranny seems to be slipping and its still idling at 3000RPM. I’ve already filed a claim through the BBB and Attorney General. I also asked the manager after I was picked up by the dealer if I would be able to cancel my check and he said, “I still have the paperwork, so we’ll see if we fix it.” The next day I called and was told by someone else that “there’s no way I could give the car back.” I’m so upset about this because I thought I did my homework and now I’m gonna be in debt with no working vehicle.

A: I worked for a car dealership for 17 years, and the only thing that is covered under the 3 day rule, are things you buy over the phone. However, in the interest of good publicity (if you will) they should take it back. Now if he still has the paperwork, does that mean you haven’t signed all of the contracts or put down the required money down. If that is the case, then don’t sign anything more and they don’t have a contract.

Q: Should i buy a alfa romeo 147 GTA?
i have recently inherited 50K. i have already bought a skyline R34 and im wondering if i should spend 30k 0n mods for the skyline orBuy a Alfa 147 GTA and have a holiday or something.

http://images.google.co.uk/images?gbv=2&svnum=10&hl=en&q=Alfa+romeo+147+GTA

A: Alphas can be notorious when it comes to engines. you really need to treat them with kid gloves and make sure that you change the oil regularly or they could pop.

The alpha is also front wheel drive no its a bit “safe”.

personally, if i had your money, i would look at a Pontiac GTO or a good 1970’s Ford falcon which you can import from Australia. The gto is uber cool, and will have a 5 or 6 litre v8 under the hood. The falcon (which resembles the dukes of hazzard) will either have the 4.2 or 5.7 litre v8 under the hood. Both are quality cars. Both are real head turners and fairly rare. best of all the falcon will be right hand drive and a doddle to drive.

PS. have a holiday any way m8. otherwise the winter is too long

Q: how much would it cost to own and run and maintain an Aston Martin DB9 per year?
if i were to buy this car-

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/200946345978569/sort/priceasc/usedcars/maximum-mileage/up_to_40000_miles/model/db9/make/aston_martin/page/1/radius/1500/postcode/pr26ty?previous=/search/used/cars/aston_martin/db9/postcode/pr26ty/radius/1500/maximum-mileage/up_to_40000_miles/page/1/sort/priceasc&logcode=p

if i were to buy it how much would it cost me every year to maintain and run. include insurance, tax, fuel, repairs and everything.

here are my stats-
age – 35
driving for – 10 years
i drive around 20000 miles a year.
insurance to be the highest because i have had many accidents and i am living in an urban area.
if anything else is needed, take an average of it.

i earn 30000 pounds a year and my wife earns 30000 pounds a year. so that 60000 pounds a year on total. we spend about 25000 pounds a year on living (electricity, food, water, you know what i mean).
a year we would save about 35000 pounds. would that be enough.

A: it would cost about 6,000,000 pounds

Q: how much would it cost to own and run and maintain a Ferrari per year?
this ferrari for example -

A: If you have to ask………….

Q: I am still in shock that she even asked me?
My 28 year old sister in law lives at home with her mother. She is a single mother of a 12 year old and works at a local home improvement store. She states that with child support she makes $35000 a year. She has no expenses other than a monthly utility payment and food for her and her child. She is $60,000 in credit card debt and filing bankruptcy next month. This weekend she went looking for a new car, as hers is 10 years old and the transmission is about to blow. Instead of trying to get a reasonably priced used car she sought out a brand new 2010 Toyota Corolla. Her credit score is pretty good, about mid 600’s but with her debt to income ratio she was told she needed a cosigner to get the car?! Guess who she called to ask to cosign?

What shocks me is that we have very little contact with her. She doesn’t come to visit us (she lives 15 minutes away), she never calls to ask about her brother or her 16 month old niece. The only time she calls is when she wants something. Anyway, I know I did the right thing refusing her but can you believe that this it is her mentality to think that I would even consider putting my credit in jeopardy when she has already proven herself irresponsible with money?

A: Good job on telling her NO.
My sister and her husband have been asking me over and over to co-sign on a HOUSE with them! Their income is too low to get approved on their own, and they say they don’t need any money from me, just my help in getting approved because my income and credit are pretty good.
The way I see it is that if you can’t afford it, you should not buy it. The bank says no for a reason.
He seems to be upset with me but OH WELL. I am 26 and unmarried, hoping soon to get married to my b/f and buy a house so we are trying to save up for that. Like I am going to take the risk of ruining my future before I’ve even gotten started for them.

Q: My wife wants me to buy an Audi a6 but i could afford a used 911?
I need a new car and looked at an a6 which in my spec comes to about £35000 but my local porsche dealer has a lovely used 911 carrera for a similar price. which should i get, and how do i convince her that a 911 is practical – the kids can go in her car….
my wife has a land rover discovery – which is more than big enough

A: Ditch the wife, buy the Porsche!!

Q: What is the sexiest best lookin SUV?
No American made SUVs or cheap imports like Toyota or Honda. I like the infiniti fx but ppl say it’s a womnes car for wives. I want somthin that looks good, foreign and can go mild offroading like hills and jumping curbs. My budget is under $35000 for a used one

A: Well, after ruling out American made, which includes Infiniti, Lexus, and Acura, Ford, GM, Dodge (all made in the US) and you ruled out Toyota and Honda…..you’re not down to a whole lot of options.

Good, foreign and can go anywhere: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HxrFph1OPKo/Sh2TEyKScHI/AAAAAAAAAyk/FyckcahBXf4/s400/lamborghini-lm002-2.jpg

The Lamborghini LM002.

Or something like a mid 80’s Nissan Pathfinder:

http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/2/3583/4081/21457040003_large.jpg

Of course, you did say sexiest and best looking. If you want to go offroad, sexiest and best looking don’t matter at all.

If you want looks, then it’s pretty much stupid to buy an SUV. It’s a UTILITY vehicle, not a symbol of status.

Q: Help needed in Buying Used BMW M3?
Hello All, I am planning on buying a used BMW M3 and I have a couple deals right now and would like to ask you people which one is better and what are the pros and cons.
1. 2005 M3, SMG, coupe, 20K miles – $38000
2. 2003 M3, Manual, Hardtop convertible, 55k miles – $28000
3. 2004 M3, Manual, coupe, 24K miles – $35000
I always wanted to buy a hardtop convertible but then the miles scare me on that car. How much would an extended maintenence warranty cost me for upto 100K?
And also the third car owner states she has maintenence warranty untill Nov 2008 & full service warranty untill 2010. What is this service warranty???

Someone please help me here.. Also note.. I live in a place where it snows for 4 mons in an yr & I have a luxury sedan to drive in that period. and this will be my second car for fun.

And also what are the main things I need to be looking / checking for before buying such a costly sports car. how abt the tires ??? please help.& also my budget is around 35K

A: I have an 02 with 63K on it. Still feels, looks, and drives like new. It’s all in how well it’s taken care of. Oil changes are every 15,000 miles, or annually, whichever is first. For me it’s annually. Oil is about $9 a quart, 7 quarts, plus filter cartridge. There is only one kind of oil it can take. Castrol TWS motorsport 10W-60.
Rear tires are every 15000 miles also. Fronts maybe 25000 if you’re lucky.
If it were me, I’d go for the 2004. Not a convertible, and not SMG are my reasons. Mileage is not a consideration unless it’s really high. Do not drive in snow. You already have that covered. Good. I’m sure the car would do just fine if it sat higher, and didn’t have 40 series tires on it. I put wider tires on mine, so they’re 35s in the back now, even worse.
SMG is great for a track, but regular driving I prefer the manual. Not sure what shift by wire means, unless he was referring to the SMG, because the manual stick goes straight into the gearbox, no wires, no linkage really other than the stick.
Don’t worry about repair costs, mine has cost very little, if at all. Inspection 2 is every 30000 miles which means all three are about due, at a cost of ~ $1500. Only #3 might be free because of the maintenance warranty. Mine has had two of them already, both covered by the maintenance warranty, which is now expired. Oh and gas mileage, officially it was listed as 16/24. I have never seen 16, and get more than 24 on every fill up. I average 25 all the time, don’t know how high it would be highway only, I’m thinking over 30, as I’ve gotten 28-29 on long highway trips myself, but I wasn’t going 55 which is how the EPA tests I think. 25 is really good for 333 HP in my opinion. I don’t drive with a light foot either.

Mine is for sale, $26000 if you’re near Denver, with lots of later model retrofits like Sirius, MP3, LEDs, front strut brace, etc. It’s a wonderful car and I’m having a hard time deciding to sell it. I love BMW 6 cylinders, but I also test drove a new one and love it too. So if someone says they’ll buy it, I guess I’ll let it go.

edit:
Mr. Fred, I don’t know why you are calling me out on my answers, but allow me to explain so that the original question asker isn’t confused by your remarks. Not trying to continue a “pissing match”, but I feel since I am right, I must explain. I am providing examples of what I have seen and what I do to my E46 M3, to provide information related to the question.

As I said, I OWN an E46 M3, I drove it off the lot with 3 miles on it. I know what BMW insists is the right oil, and it is not 15W-50, I have the service bulletins, and the sticker under the hood specifying use only the oil I stated. You can go to Walmart if you like. Inspection 2 is more than a simple fluid check. It includes a valve adjustment, which is why it is so expensive. As I stated, I have not paid for one yet, but I know what the dealer would have charged. I changed my tire widths because I was doing track days. See my avatar? That’s me. That has nothing to do with anything though, I was simply stating that it is no good in the snow, even worse with wider tires. And there is no wire or cable for the transmission, it’s not a transaxle. I’ve been under the car and changed the oil on the transmission with- well I’ll just say it wasn’t from Walmart. I would think that an owner of an E46 M3 can speak the truth about what oil to use and what maintenance costs better than an E36 owner. I wouldn’t tell an E92 owner that they don’t know what they are talking about after owning if for 6 years. When I turn my key on, the service indicator says 15525 miles to next oil change after I just did it. Explain that. It counts down mile for mile unless the engine is cold or being driven hard, at which point it counts down faster. BMW wants it in for an oil change every year if you don’t get to the 15000 miles. I’ve had this car for 6 years, I think I know how to change the oil and what the service guys at the dealer have told me. And since I own this car and fill it up on a regular basis (with premium) I know what kind of mileage it gets, you are guessing.

Q: 2008 Subaru sti body parts fit on same year wrx ?
i am a 16 year old looking for my first car, i really want a 2008 sti because i like how it looks with its fender flares and all the outside styling, my question is will the body parts from a Subaru sti fit on a wrx, i would really rather jus buy the sti but i don’t have $35000 for a used one and with 305 hp will probably result in my death because im already putting crawford performance parts on it, which will boost horsepower…
Honestly i don’t know what the amount of answers and questions i’ve had, have to do with anything, yes i am 16, and yes my parents are willing to pay up to around 30 000 canadian dollars for this car, i want the wrx because it has less horsepower then the sti but i still want it to look like an sti that is why im asking….

A: Body part answer = yes.

Other engine performance, not sure if you can handle it.

Q: BMW 750i not driven for 15 years…what could go wrong?
Hello there,

I saw an ad for a rarely used BMW 750i with only 35000 KM mileage. The guy was selling it for about 10,000 dollars and he said it was rarely used and was parked in the garage for 15years.

My question is that if you buy a car like that, even if its in a good pruning condition. What problems can i expect in the future? Electrical problems , engine problems etc.

I think this was a V12 car….so what is your input?

A: First of all, it’s well known that not driving a car doesn’t mean that the car remains in good condition. Sitting around collecting dust is bad for a car.
Add to that the fact that BMW is the most expensive brand of car to keep on the road and you have a reciepe for disaster.
